The rarest bird in the world is the Spix's Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii), also known as the Little Blue Macaw. It is a critically endangered species of parrot that is native to Brazil. The Spix's Macaw was thought to be extinct in the wild until a small population was discovered in 1985.
There are currently less than 100 Spix's Macaws in existence, with all of them being held in captivity for breeding and conservation efforts. The primary threats to the species include habitat loss, hunting, and illegal trapping for the pet trade.
Efforts are being made to increase the population of Spix's Macaws through breeding programs and habitat restoration. Conservationists are working to reintroduce the birds to their natural habitat in hopes of rebuilding a sustainable population in the wild.
